Alaska Cruise Day 5: Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska | Travel Photography

Glacier Bay was, hands down, the top most impressive, awe inspiring, humbling experience of my life.

We watched ancient glaciers calve, thundering down into the mineral rich green water, creating mini-tsunamis that rippled through the fjords — from our own private balcony.

One thing you can’t get from these photos was the SOUND of being in GBNP. These guys are NOISY.

A couple of the glaciers we visited move up to 8 inches a day… Imagine the loudest sound of ice cracking that you can, and then double it, and then throw in countless echos and reverberations.

These glaciers are alive. And impressively powerful.

So so humbling.

These snaps bring tears to my eyes — I hope they do for a long time to come.

I’d like to help put the below photo into perspective for you: This shot was taken of the Johns Hopkins Glacier from FIVE MILES away.

If any one is interested: I shot all of these with my handy-dandy 50mm 1.8. I had reserved numerous fancy lens rentals for this trip and canceled them last minute (the cost was going to be ridiculous). It was challenging to shoot everything (the ENTIRE trip) with just the 50mm, but I love how my photos look in the end. This is my fav lens, it is so light and portable (unlike my other fav the 70-200mm) and I feel my photos across this entire trip have a consistent “look” — one that I’ve only been able to master with this lil ol 1.8.

These are incredible, even the ones without me in them :)

Seriously your best landscape work to date.
